Southwest Airlines

GSD&M • TV

My first TV assignment. I was 24.

Southwest Airlines was growing fast. They were opening up new markets multiple times a year and asked for one commercial that could be updated to announce each new destination.

My CD said, “You know — make it a donut.”

I think I wrote a half-dozen spots with actual donuts in them before I realized what the hell he were talking about.

For the next ten years, this was the first spot — and first impression — new cities had of Southwest Airlines.
