“Wanna Get Away”
Wanna Get Away - the line that helped take a regional airline national. Gene Brenek and I came up with this campaign for a project that didn’t exist. CD Brian Brooker wanted to improve these terrible “schedule scroll” spots that SWA ran on TV - they were literally the daily flight schedule from that particular city presented as a text scroll. Brian thought we could do better than that and asked us to come up with a solution. The client never asked for it but when we presented it there were literal tears in their eyes. They couldn’t believe the initiative we took as an agency. It was a special time.
“Chick Flick”
“Thank You, Detroit”
Classic Spinal Tap joke. Filmed it at The Apollo. The DP was Guillermo Navarro who went on to win an Oscar for Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth.
“Personal Ad”
Personal ads?! Jesus, how old am I?!
Recognise the actress on the left? It’s Judy Reyes in one of her first gigs. Must be why she was soon starring in Scrubs. Funny thing, the hullabaloo was about casting the actress on the right who had just starred in the Pink Moon VW spot. Everyone said she was over-exposed. Whatever. She was funny and we cast her. But I guess not as funny as Judy…
