Southwest Airlines “Wanna Get Away”
The very first Wanna Get Away. Gene Brenek and I came up with the campaign for a project that didn’t exist. CD Brian Brooker wanted to improve these terrible “schedule scroll” spots that SWA ran on TV - they were literally the daily flight schedule from that particular city. Brian thought we could do better than that and asked us to come up with a solution. 20 years later they are still using it.
Classic Spinal Tap joke. Filmed it at The Apollo. Guillermo Navarro was the DP who went on to win an Oscar for Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labrynth.
Okay, this one feels a bit dated. Personal ads?! But hey, we cast Judy Reyes for one of her first gigs. Must be why she was soon starring in Scrubs. Funny thing, the hullabaloo was about casting the other actress who had just starred in the Pink Moon VW spot.Everyone said she was over-exposed. Whatever, she was funny. But I guess not as funny as Judy….
